Royan
At the Belle Epoque (early
20th century), Royan became one of the most
prestigious sea-side resorts on the atlantic coast.
It was almost completely destroyed at the end of
World War II, and rebuilt afterwards. It owes its
reputation to its attractive cocktail of Belle
Epoque and 1950's architecture. Local people and
holiday-makers alike appreciate its life-style an
its clean and flowery setting.
A lot of special events
-some of them of nation-wide or even international
importance- take place all year long. Among them :
the Show Jumping, Violons sur le Sable (classical
music beach-concerts), the ice-skating rink on the
beach in winter, the Marble World Cup, the
fireworks on August 15th, and the Horsemanship
Special Weekend.

Royan has facilities for
almost all the sports : tennis, squash,
horse-riding, golf, parchute-jumping, sailing,
windsurfing, skin diving, etc...
Royan also offers an
exceptionnal hinterland, full of natural and
historical riches, located in what we call the
Triangle of the Three Savours, namely : oysters,
Pineau & Cognac wines, and the Medoc wines
area.
